Training Techniques for Cyclists - Bicycling Magazine
This is a slim volume (100 pages) full of useful tips and insights about how our bodies work when we're cycling, and how to improve different aspects: pedalling, diet, speed, endurance, power, and so on. It's not specifically aimed at racers: you can pick and choose from it - and it's a fairly easy read. More info.

This is a jolly romp of a test post, set firmly in my imagination. You are very welcome to borrow it, although it's a very thin volume.
